John Wilks Memorial Award

About The John Wilks Memorial Award

John Wilks was a fantastic academic musician and pianist. He was a huge supporter of RASM, coming to all of our concerts and meeting many of our students over the last 6 years. To honour his memory, his wife Lis Wilks has bought a trophy for the school, which will be presented to an RASM student each year at the annual concert. The trophy will have the name of the winning student and the year engraved on the base, and they can keep this for a year. The winner will also receive a smaller trophy with their name engraved that they can keep. RASM teachers can nominate up to one student for every ten that they teach and the student has to have filled all of the criteria below. The nominations will be anonymous and the winner of the award will be decided by Lis Wilks, wife of the late John Wilks.

The criteria for the award

  • Active participation in RASM concerts, performance platforms and other events at the school
  • Clear demonstration that the student has made significant improvement in all areas of musicianship, eg instrument playing, sight reading and aural capability during the year, at any level
  • Consistent attendance to weekly lessons at RASM
  • Evidence that the student regularly practises their instrument
