David’s early introduction to music was heard in sharp relief against the peaceful backdrop of his home in the Lake District. Initially learning to play piano and clarinet, he later defected to the saxophone, performing variously with a saxophone quartet, the Westmorland Youth Orchestra, funk outlet “Jabba the Funk”, and DJs for events, studio sessions and functions.
He went on to study music at Girton College, University of Cambridge, where he was awarded instrumental and choral scholarships. Graduating in 2017, he then studied composition at the University of York whilst singing professionally at York Minster. When he wasn’t deftly avoiding the city’s hostile goose population, he played saxophone regularly as part of a jazz band at events across the North East.
Following a three-year stint in Chichester, working both as a teacher and as one of the cathedral’s regular team of singers, David moved to London in 2022 to pursue a freelance career in music. His varied musical career has so far afforded him opportunities to tour to Hong Kong, Canada, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Germany.
Tailoring the content of his lessons to the specific requirements and musical affinities of his students, David has experience teaching all levels of saxophonist across a broad spectrum of styles.
