Born in Canada, Heather studied at the University of Victoria before moving to London to graduate with a masters from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a PhD from the University of Huddersfield. She also lived in Germany for 8 years as a freelance musician.
She is an active chamber musician, performing regularly with Apartment House across the UK and in her duo with the accordionist Eva Zöllner all over the world. Their most recent tours were of Sweden and Mexico, and this year they’ll be travelling to Colombia. She also freelances regularly with groups including the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Sinfonietta, and has played at festivals across Europe, including Musica Nova (Helsinki), MusikFest (Berlin), the Venice Biennale, Mixtur Festival (Barcelona), Gaudeamus Festival (Holland), etc. She appears regularly at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and on BBC Radio 3, and on one recent broadcast was referred to as the “Queen of Extended Techniques”.
She loves woodwind instruments and brings a playful approach to her teaching. In addition to teaching at the Royal Arsenal School of Music, she is one of the clarinet tutors at Goldsmiths, University of London. Heather teaches both clarinet and saxophone.
