Group Theory Classes

Did you know that when you pass an ABRSM exam Grade 6 or above you are awarded UCAS points? This gives your university application an extra boost making you a more attractive candidate for any course.

Those wanting to take these exams must have at least a pass in Grade 5 Music Theory and our fabulous teacher Honor is here to help our students through the exam. It is much better if our students get ahead of the game on this so it doesn’t stall progress on their instruments when they reach Grade 5, so we encourage every student to start theory lessons from early on in their music education. Not only does it make fulfilling the criteria for higher grade exams easier (in particular the sight-reading and aural), but it also speeds up the process of learning in our practical lessons.

Honor currently tutors one to one online for our students who are Grade 3 and above. From the Autumn Term 2021, in addition to the individual lessons, Honor will be tutoring group classes for our students in Studio 1, up to 12 students at a time. There are 3 different group classes for varying abilities.

  • Bronze (40 minutes)
  • Silver (40 minutes)
  • Gold (40 minutes)

When our students reach Grade 3 in Music Theory we recommend seeing Honor for one to one lessons for ABRSM Grade 5 exam preparation.

Musicianship Classes

Being a great musician is about so much more than just being able to play your instrument to a high standard. That is only the tip of the iceberg!

Our group musicianship classes, led by our brilliant guitar teacher Stefan in Studio 1, support our students' instrumental studies by focusing on hearing music and musical patterns. These classes will be helping our students to 'train' their ears by recognising intervals and chords.

Musicianship classes will benefit absolutely all of our students, but there is an added bonus for our students who are on the ABRSM grading system, as this will hugely help the aural-training which is needed for the exams.

  • Bronze (40 minute class)
  • Silver (40 minute class)
  • Gold (40 minute class)

If you are unsure which class to book, please speak to your instrumental teacher and they will be able to advise.
